I love brunch. There's nothing else to it, so recently I've taken it upon myself to try out as many 'brunches' (is that even a word?) as I can. I've been gathering my friends, family and boyfriend to help me on my quest to find the best places for brunch. Unfortunately for those living outside of London quite a few these places won't be available to you, however if you're ever taking a little trip to the capital, you'll know where to go! I would advise not to read this post if you're feeling particularly hungry because before you know it, you'll have a huge craving for a massive stack of pancakes!
For a good place to show off to your friends: Bill's (Wimbledon) & London Grind (London Bridge)
Starting off the list is Bill's, one of my favourite places to eat. I've tried quite a few things on their breakfast menu and found that their veggie breakfast which is great (the mushrooms are incredible) however I think the granola & yogurt is even better. It's fairly inexpensive at £4.95 for fruit skewers, yogurt and granola, and more importantly, it fills you up with out you feeling stuffed. If you don't fancy that then their blueberry and buttermilk pancakes are pretty good too. (P.S They also have branches up & down the country, hurrah!) I visited London Grind last weekend and absolutely loved it, the staff in there were so incredibly helpful and were more than willing to help me with finding the best vegetarian option on the menu. Not to mention the music, if you're a fan of late 1990 to early 2000 hip hop and R 'n' B then you'll love it here. I went for 'The London Grind' but with veggie substitutes and I was so glad I did. It was amazing, I loved the edition of avocado, grilled vine tomatoes and rosemary Focaccia in the breakfast.
For the indulgent Sundays: Gail's (Dulwich) & The Breakfast Club (Soho)
I'll admit it, I'm a bit of a savoury fiend. Especially when it comes to crisps, but sometimes there is nothing better than tucking into a stack of pancakes or delving into some french toast. However I've done my research and I can vouch that I've found two of the best indulgent sweet Sunday treats. I was introduced to Gail's by my good friend Liv, who seems to know everything that's cool, as one afternoon we stopped off at the Soho branch for a well deserved tea break. Due to no fault but my own I had no idea that they did brunch until I visited there Dulwich cafe one frosty Sunday morning. As soon as I found out I practically ran inside, whipped off my coat and ordered the french toast and a soothing camomile tea. The toast was pretty impressive, and slightly overwhelming in size, as I'm sure you can tell the portion size was not small! Now, everyone knows The Breakfast Club, it's so popular that on a weekend you can expect to wait for up to 45 minutes for a table at their Soho branch. However the pancakes really are worth the wait, and as it is called The Breakfast Club you can expect a lot more than just pancakes, there is every breakfast item you can ever imagine. I've got my eye on the 'when halloumi met salad wrap'! (See what they did there...)
For good quality and veggie friendly: Graveney & Meadow (Tooting)
Finally, I bring you to somewhere you may not have heard of as it's not part of a chain or based in a tourist area. Graveney and Meadow is a South West London cafe/bar/restaurant which serves up an excellent brunch. Ranging from peanut butter & jam french toast to the traditional full English, it's no surprise why they decide to serve it all day. I've been here on numerous occasions and I'm still yet to try out the whole brunch menu. However I can confirm that the veggie full English is excellent and is served with unlimited toast which is perfect if you're a bread monster like me! The staff in there are great, one of the waiters asked me if I wanted extra halloumi as I asked for no baked beans, they truly knew the way to my heart... Despite being a great option for vegetarians, it's also fantastic for you meat eaters. In the first photo you might be able to spot my boyfriends french toast, with a mountain of bacon on top, are you drooling yet? Perhaps the perfect stop before after a long day at Tooting Bec Lido?
Your blog is gorgeous by the way!
ReplyDeleteAlways wanted to try Bills - it came to Liverpool recently and I'm yet to try it out but definitely will now I've read this. Fantastic post lovely.

Hopefully they're not too far away!
DeleteI freaking love Graveney and Meadow. Gary and I use to go there all the time. Their Eggs Royale are lush!
ReplyDeleteIf you're in Tooting area, I can also recommend Tota as an amazing brunch spot! They get pretty busy on weekends so we usually have to book, but oh boy it's worth it!!! They do an amazing smashed avocado and feta on toast which, with a side of crispy bacon, is my brunch of dreams.

I completely forgot about Tota! I've been there before, I'll definitely try and go for brunch soon!
DeleteNot sure if I am commenting twice now...
ReplyDeleteBut anyhow, I love Bills! Food is brilliant!
I got a view places I can recommend you if you haven't visited. You need to visit Granger & Co in Farringdon. Food is amazing and the decor is really nice.
Ben's Canteen in Clapham, does amazing banana pancakes - I wrote a review about them on my blog (www.fashionbeautyacne.wordpress.com) recently, and also if you're a fan of scotch eggs, then you got to eat them at Whyte & Brown! x
Thanks for your recommendations! I've been wanting to try out Ben's Canteen for a little while.
DeleteOoo thanks for sharing! These places will come in handy the next time I visit London. Those pancakes look incredible, I've been wanting to try The Breakfast Club for a while now.
